Incoming 6th Grade Information (Current 5th Grade)

Important Dates to Remember:

* Elective presentation at CHE and Hope: March 6, 2020

* Parent Information Night: March 10, 2020 at 5:30-7:00pm

* 5th grade tour of CHMS: March 13, 2020 at 8:00-11:45am--CANCELED: Based on guidance from the California Department of Public Health to suspend all large gatherings that include 250 people or more, we will be suspending the 5th Grade Student Tour on March 13 and the Parent Tour on March 24. We will determine at a future date whether or not these events can be rescheduled.

* Parent tours: March 11, 1:15-2:15pm and March 24, 8:30-9:30am (canceled) - please RSVP here

Math Placement Information for Incoming 6th Grade Students

For district criteria for Math 6 Advanced, click here.

Letters will be sent home via email in May about your child's Math placement for next year based on the above criteria. If your child did not qualify for Math 6 Advanced and you would like them to be in that class, you may complete an Online Math Waiver.

* Elective Request Forms: because of our extended school closure, elective request will now be done online. Please see the Incoming 6th Grade Elective Selection Process document for a step-by-step guide to selecting electives/completing applications.

2020-2021 Registration and WEB Orientation

Registration Day for 6th Grade Students:  Date: TBD. You will receive information about registration by the beginning of August. Make up registration day is TBD as well. Additional registration information available here.

WEB Orientation Day for 6th Grade Students: August 24th 8:00am-12:00pm in the CHMS Gym. WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Leaders will facilitate an exciting day of activities for 6th graders to make them feel supported and help them feel like they are a part of the CHMS family. 6th grade students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a copy of their schedule. No backpacks please.

Independent Study Physical Education (ISPE)

ISPE qualifications include (see application packet for a more detailed explanation):

  • Participant must compete in an individual sport at a regional, state, or national level
  • Proof of participation in at least 3 competitions at that level in the last 6 months
  • Participant must spend a minimum of 200 minutes per week in the ISPE sport
